Study Plan Lead Teacher

Study plan teachers are not-yet-certified teachers who are eligible to work as Pre-K and/or 3K lead teachers at New York City Early Childhood Community-Based Organizations (CBOs). Study plan teachers pursue certification while teaching full-time.

Eligibility

Ideal study plan candidates include experienced educators who have not yet obtained certification, undergraduate or graduate early childhood education students, and teachers who are certified in another state, but have not yet secured NY State teacher certification.

Pre-K Study Plan Lead Teacher

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or a below related field with 12+ credit hours in early childhood coursework

  • Child Development
  • Child Psychology
  • General Education
  • N-6 Elementary Education
  • Special Education - Students with Disabilities B-2
  • Special Education - Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6
  • Commit to obtaining New York State Early Childhood teacher certification within five years of employment

3K Study Plan Lead Teacher

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree
  • Have at least one year of experience working in early childhood education with students grade 3 or younger
  • Commit to obtaining New York State Early Childhood teacher certification within seven years of employment

Required Documentation

Teachers on a study plan should be ready to provide employers with proof that they are on track to become certified within the mandated time period for their role. 

Acceptable forms of documentation may include:

Letter of Good Standing from Your University

Ask your advisor for a note on official letterhead stating that you are in good standing with the university.

Early Childhood Education Transcript

Provide your transcript(s) to prove that you have successfully completed early education coursework.  

Proof of Enrollment

Share an e-mail confirming your official enrollment in an Early Childhood Teacher Preparation Program.
