The Internship Certificate

With an Internship Certificate, you can start teaching in your certification area before graduating from a teacher preparation program.

An Internship Certificate is a two-year certificate for those who have completed at least 50% of an approved New York State graduate program leading to an Initial Certificate.

Eligibility

Before you begin working under an Internship Certification, you must:

  • Be officially recommended by your university or college
  • Complete required workshops
  • Secure fingerprint clearance

Earning Internship Certification

Many universities require you to obtain a job before officially recommending you to NYSED for an Internship Certificate. You’ll need to complete the NYC Certified Teacher Application in order to begin your job search. You can do this by securing an eligibility letter from your college or university certification officer indicating your eligibility for an Internship Certificate. Submit this letter as supporting documentation for your certification when completing the NYC Teacher Application to get started.
