Empire State Teacher Residency

The Empire State Teacher Residency Program provides opportunities for aspiring teachers to jumpstart their careers at NYC Ʒ߿ (NYCPS) by completing residencies in NYCPS priority districts.In partnership with nine local colleges and universities, the program supports teacher residents earning clinical experience in a NYC Public School and provides an annual stipend.

Eligibility

You have a bachelor's degreeand have not previously attended a teacher preparation program.

Participating colleges and universities determine their own admissions requirements.

Your Career

The Empire State Teacher Residency Program helps launch your teaching career by immersing you in real classroom experiences from day one. With direct mentorship and hands-on learning, you’ll build the confidence and skills to thrive as an educator at NYC Ʒ߿.

Your Training

Empire State Teacher residents complete 1,000 hours of clinical experience in a NYC Public School and make a 2-year commitment to teach in NYCPS upon completion of their residency. Residents complete a full year of student teaching while completing graduate level coursework at their university.

Residents receive a $30,000 stipend.
