There are three common types of New York State teacher certification: Initial, Professional, and Transitional. If you hold any of these licenses, you can apply to NYCPS to teach in the upcoming school year.
If you are licensed to teach in another U.S. state or territory, you may be eligible for a reciprocal teaching certificate in New York. We suggest applying to teach at NYCPS and applying for your certificate from NYSED simultaneously.聽
If you are licensed to teach in another country, you must possess both U.S. work authorization and New York State teacher certification. Submit your international credentials for evaluation by NYSED to get started.聽

If you are completing鈥攐r have recently completed鈥攁 New York State-approved teacher preparation program, and will receive your teacher certification by September, you can apply to teach for the upcoming school year.
If you have completed at least half of an approved graduate-level teacher preparation program in New York State leading to an Initial Certificate, you can apply to teach for the upcoming school year through an Internship Certificate.
If you are enrolled in an approved teacher preparation program, you can get real-world experience as a student teacher, working alongside an experienced teacher.
