Pre-Service Training: The Spring Residency

The cornerstone of the NYC Teaching Collaborative program is the residency experience. From January through June, Partner Teachers apprentice in a NYCPS classroom under the guidance of a Collaborative Coach—a veteran, experienced teacher who has demonstrated effectiveness in a high-need school in New York City.

During training, you will:

  • Teach daily in a NYCPS classroom with one-on-one coaching from skilled NYC educators
  • Begin master's degree coursework at your assigned university to train in your subject area
  • Attend skill-building sessions focused on high-impact teaching techniques
  • Collaborate with a supportive cohort of future educators and experienced mentors

Our training sets a high bar because we know that teacher quality is the most important factor in raising student achievement. By holding a high bar and helping you meet it, we ensure that the students of New York City get the great teachers they need and deserve.

Summer: Begin Graduate Coursework

We know that great teachers are life-long learners. Our Partner Teachers embody this by completing master's degree coursework customized to meet the needs of new teachers, giving them the tools, resources, and foundation of an effective educator.

Tuition Support

The program covers most of the cost of your master’s degree (excluding books and fees). Any remaining tuition is deducted from your paycheck once you begin teaching.
