Subject Areas

NYC Teaching Fellows train to teach in high-need subject areas—where our students need great teachers the most.

When you apply, you’ll be asked about your subject area preferences. You won’t apply for a specific subject—instead, we’ll determine your eligibility and assign you to a subject based on:

  • New York State coursework requirements
  • Your preferences
  • Hiring needs in NYC Ʒ߿

Your subject assignment may change throughout the process based on program needs and university requirements. Final subject area placement is determined by our university partners.

If there’s a subject you feel strongly about teaching, apply early and check the Subject Area Requirements to make sure you meet the necessary coursework requirements.
